Free or paid?
Short extensions — an hour or two either side — are often waved through for free when the hotel has space. Half-day or longer extensions usually carry a fee set by the property, which can still be far cheaper than an extra night. Whatever is agreed, get it confirmed by the hotel rather than assumed.
When you need a guarantee
- Guaranteed early check-in — book the previous night too. The room is then yours from the moment you land, however early.
- Guaranteed late check-out — ask the hotel about a paid late check-out and have it confirmed in writing.
