How do I know if breakfast is included in my hotel rate?

Each rate on the room page states its board basis โ€” "room only" means no meals, while "breakfast included" covers the hotel's breakfast for the guests on the booking. Your confirmation email and booking in My Trips repeat the board basis, and if you booked room-only you can usually add breakfast at the hotel for a daily charge.

Where to look

The board basis is shown at every step: on the rate when you select it, in the checkout summary before you pay, in your confirmation email, and on the booking in My Trips. If none of those says breakfast, your rate is room only.

Same room, two prices

Most hotels sell the same room both ways โ€” room only and with breakfast โ€” a short scroll apart on the room page. Do the per-person maths before choosing: divide the price difference by the number of guests and compare it with what a hotel breakfast is worth to you. At bigger properties the buffet often justifies the upgrade; near a street full of cafรฉs, maybe not.

Adding breakfast later

Booked room only and changed your mind? You can usually buy breakfast at the property per day, though the walk-in price is typically higher than booking it upfront with the rate. Resorts may also offer half-board or other meal plans worth comparing at booking time.

Who breakfast covers

Breakfast applies to the registered guests on the booking; children's rules โ€” free, discounted or full price โ€” vary by hotel, so check the property's policy if you are travelling as a family.
