JBR and The Walk: Dubai's beachfront strip

Jumeirah Beach Residence — JBR to everyone — is a wall of forty towers between Dubai Marina and the sea, and at its feet runs the most accessible beach day in Dubai. You do not need a resort wristband here: the sand is public, the water is calm, and everything from sunloungers to watersports is rented by the hour.

The Walk and The Beach

The Walk is the ground-level boulevard that runs the length of JBR: cafés, restaurants and shops spilling onto a wide promenade, with the Mediterranean-meets-Arabian architecture of the towers overhead. The Beach, an open-air mall between The Walk and the sand, adds cinemas, more dining and an evening market feel. The whole strip comes alive after dark, when the ferris wheel on Bluewaters Island next door — Ain Dubai, the largest observation wheel in the world — lights up offshore.

Practicalities

JBR is busiest on winter weekends; come on a weekday morning for the calm version. The tram runs along the back of the district and connects to the Metro, and there is paid parking beneath The Beach. If you are touring by rental car, JBR pairs naturally with Dubai Marina next door — park once and walk both waterfronts, or drive ten minutes to Palm Jumeirah for a completely different coastline.
